Since affiliate marketing is usually based on a pay per sale, you should be able to sell before you earn anything.  And before you can sell anything, it is almost mandatory to pre-sell your customers.  Your main task is to make sure that they are conviced to get the product.  You do not just place a banner in your site and expect it to generate a sale.  More often than not, visitors do not even see that banner.  Again, you will have to convince them to buy.  You can do this by making a review about the product, a helpful article or some electronic mails sent to them about the product and its benefits.

In affiliate marketing, you need to select the product to promote.  In the case of many affiliate marketers, they simply promote the wrong products.  A good product to promote is a product that has a huge demand.  Selling a boat for example can result to a huge commission but it can still be a wrong product to promote if there is no big demand for the product.  Also, there should not be too many competition.  If there is too much competition, more effort is required to promote a product.  If you can find a product that has a huge demand but not too much competition, it is a product that you should definitely go for.

These are just some tips that you should keep in mind to stay ahead in the internet marketing game.  Map out a game plan and do it!  Affiliate marketing is lucrative and there is no reason why you should not engage on it.
